Abstract
The article examines how Japanese society constructs a collective historical memory of the atomic tragedy of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The analysis focuses on the memorial mechanisms that ensure the transmission of traumatic experiences between generations, as well as the public institutions that take responsibility for the preservation of this complex heritage. Particular attention is paid to the cultural aspect of the memorialization of the events of August 1945 in connection with their 80th anniversary in 2025. The purpose of the work is to present a comprehensive picture of the Japanese memorial discourse to the Russian audience through the coverage and analysis of key commemorative practices. These include museum and exhibition materials, literary evidence, archival initiatives, and public projects. The study not only analyzes the specifics of the Japanese memory culture, but also reveals its potential for understanding and developing effective educational and cultural strategies in the Russian context.
